I was born February 2nd, 1984 in Abrams Wisconsin to two loving parents Curt and Kathy VandenPlas. I am the first of three boys. I attended public school in Abrams, Washington Island, and Oconto Falls and graduated in 2002. Very shortly after graduation I enlisted in the Army and was sent off to Ft. Benning, Georgia.
I served for 13 years throughout my military career. I deployed on 2 separate tours to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with B. Co. 2/127th Infantry Battalion and continued with C. 1/121st Field artillery. My military career has been critical to my leadership abilities, understanding diversity, and a vast understanding of global cultures. After my service, I moved back to Wisconsin in hopes to startup my own farm.
I worked several jobs in the district from maintenance supervisor to working in the ship yards in Marinette and Sturgeon Bay. In 2106, while working and attending UWGB, I married the love of my life Emily VandenPlas. We enthusiastically invested in a sustainable vegetable farm Door County Farm LLC. We truly enjoy living from the land and selling the excess within our local community.
Very quickly I learned the need for veteran support and farming in Wisconsin. Veterans all across the state are being ignored, so I started Door County (DC) Farm for Vets to help veterans learn how to farm at a local level. We teach veterans all aspects of farming in hopes that they themselves will follow suit and grow good fresh produce and have a sustainable income.
As I travel my local community and talk to the the thousands of people, I saw the needs of the many, not just veterans, not being honored by the few. There isn't an issue out there that isn't being ignored and We The People are the ones suffering. It's time that we put the People first and honor the freedoms of this country while protecting our rights, liberty, and our pursuit of happiness. I am very excited to be your Congressmen and our state needs my hard work and steadfast dedication needed to bring this country back for Freedom.
